GE IC697BEM731|Genius Bus I/O Bus Controller Module|
The module receives one Genius bus input from the main controller and outputs two Genius bus branches, Port-A and Port-B, which are electrically isolated from each other. Two output ports are electrically isolated, which can cut off the ground loop between different on-site areas, eliminating communication jitter and packet loss caused by ground potential differences. The baud rate completely follows the settings of the upstream main controller and cannot be independently modified. It supports three Genius standard rates: 153.6 kbit/s, 76.8 kbit/s, and 38.4 kbit/s. Each output branch can connect up to 31 Genius slave stations, and the total number of nodes and I/O points in the entire network are still determined by the upstream BEM711/BEM713 main module. The extender will not increase the total data capacity of the system.
Each output port supports Genius dual cable redundant wiring. If a single bus cable is damaged, the redundant link can continue to maintain communication. The bus cable must use Belden 9182 shielded twisted pair, and terminal matching resistors must be connected at both ends of each bus segment. The maximum communication distance of the bus varies with the baud rate, with a maximum of 2000 feet at a maximum speed of 153.6 kbit/s and up to 7500 feet at a low speed of 38.4 kbit/s.
The backplane is powered by 5VDC, with a total power consumption of 7.5W. The panel is equipped with multiple sets of LED status indicators, which respectively display module operation, hardware self-test, input bus status, Port-A, Port-B branch status, and fault alarms. The module can detect input link disconnections, A/B port short circuits, branch bus faults, and upload fault information to the PLC CPU. It can cooperate with the PLC alarm processor to make timestamp fault records. The module itself does not have local I/O terminals, and all on-site signals are connected to external Genius remote I/O stations.
