Case 1: Genius remote I/O station for power plant auxiliary equipment (most common on-site inventory)
System architecture: Host GE 90-70 PLC+Genius coaxial bus+Remote station head IC670GBI002 (24VDC BIU), Backpanel configuration:
IC670MDL644 × 2 blocks: Collecting high-speed proximity switches for belts and conveying equipment, speed pulse signals, and quick contact points for deviation and emergency stop
IC670MDL640 × 1 block: Collecting common relay faults and local buttons
Value: The belt speed pulse needs to be captured quickly; MDL640 filtering is prone to losing pulses, so MDL644 is selected to ensure that pulses are not missed; NPN and PNP sensors can be mixed without hardware modification.
Case 2: Distributed I/O Transformation of Metallurgical Production Line
Scenario: Rolling line conveying, baffle in place detection, a large number of photoelectric switches, high-speed limit, and both NPN and PNP sensors on site.
Configuration: Field Control remote I/O station, MDL644 collects 16 in place and trigger signals; GBI002 is used as a Genius slave station, and the signal is uploaded to the RX3i main PLC.
Advantages: The same module is compatible with two types of output sensors, reducing the types of spare parts; Hot swappable, maintenance equipment does not require stopping the bus.
Case 3: Replacement of old system spare parts for packaging assembly line
The old GE Genius distributed system has high-speed photoelectric trigger counting at the assembly line workstation, and the old MDL644 is damaged.
Replacement point: Cannot be directly replaced with MDL640; The MDL640 is equipped with a large RC filter, which can cause inaccurate counting due to the loss of trigger points during high-speed counting.
Case 4: IC670CPU 350 Local Intelligent Station
Using IC670CPU350 for local logic running, with MDL644 inserted into the backplane, high-speed pulses on site are directly processed by the local CPU without relying on the upper PLC, reducing Genius bus latency.
