Overview

The VMIVME-7486 is a 6U single-slot VMEbus single-board computer (SBC), originally designed by VMIC, later part of GE Fanuc and now classified as Abaco Systems legacy hardware. Built around Intel 80486 processor, this board is fully PC/AT compatible and serves as the host CPU for legacy VME embedded racks.

Unlike the passive storage carriers VMIVME-7452 (Floppy + IDE HDD) and VMIVME-7455 (IDE CD-ROM), the VMIVME-7486 is an active processor board with integrated IDE and floppy controllers. It routes IDE/floppy signals through the VME P2 connector to drive those companion storage modules. It can boot operating systems from floppy, IDE hard drive or IDE flash, supporting DOS, early Windows versions and real-time operating systems such as VxWorks for industrial control.

This is an end-of-life legacy VME CPU module. Original new production stock is no longer available. We supply fully tested surplus and refurbished VMIVME-7486 units for maintenance replacement of critical legacy industrial racks.

• VMIVME-7455: Passive carrier for IDE CD-ROM, for software installation and firmware upgrade All three modules can be mounted in one VME chassis; IDE and floppy signals travel over the VME P2 connector from VMIVME-7486 to the two passive storage boards.
