BENTLY NEVADA 3500/22M-01-01-01 Transient Data Interface
The 3500 Transient Data Interface (TDI) is the communication and data acquisition gateway for the Bently Nevada 3500 Machinery Protection System. It connects the 3500 rack to System 1 for machinery diagnostics, condition monitoring, and asset management.
Main Functions of the 3500 TDI
Acts as the primary interface between the 3500 rack and external monitoring software.
Installed in Slot 1 of the 3500 rack beside the power supplies.
Combines:
The functions of a 3500/20 Rack Interface Module (RIM)
The communication capability of older external communication processors such as TDXnet.
Data Collection Capability
The TDI continuously gathers:
Steady-state data
Overall vibration values
Temperature
Process variables
Alarm status
Transient / dynamic waveform data
Startup and coast-down events
Orbit plots
Timebase waveforms
Spectrum data
This information is transmitted through an Ethernet connection to System 1 software for advanced analysis and diagnostics.

Older systems required separate communication processors. The TDI integrates this functionality directly into the rack.

With the optional Channel Enabling Disk, the TDI can record high-resolution transient events useful for:

TMR (Triple Modular Redundant) Version
For critical applications, the system can use a TMR TDI version.
In a TMR configuration:
Three redundant monitors operate simultaneously.
The TMR TDI continuously compares outputs from the three monitors.
If one monitor deviates beyond configured limits, the TDI:
Flags the faulty monitor
Logs an event in the System Event List
Supports system reliability and fault tolerance
This architecture is commonly used in:

Important Note
Although the TDI supports rack-wide communication and data management, it is not part of the critical protection path. Machinery protection functions continue operating normally even if the TDI fails or communication is interrupted.
