ABB REF610|Feeder Protection Relay|

REF610
Output Contacts and Signal Routing
The relay is equipped with a comprehensive output interface consisting of:
Three power output contacts: PO1, PO2, and PO3
Two standard signal output contacts: SO1 and SO2
Three optional signal output contacts: SO3, SO4, and SO5
The relay uses switchgroups SGR1…SGR8 to provide flexible signal routing. These switchgroups allow internal signals from the following functions to be assigned to the required output contacts:
Protection stage operations
External trip signals
Automatic reclosing function signals
The output operation characteristics can be configured according to application requirements:
Minimum output pulse duration can be selected as 40 ms or 80 ms
Power output contacts can be configured as latched outputs for applications requiring maintained trip or alarm indications
This flexible output configuration allows the relay to adapt to various protection, control, and signaling schemes in substations and industrial power systems.
5.1.1.4 Disturbance Recorder
The relay incorporates an internal disturbance recorder for capturing and analyzing fault events and system disturbances.
The recorder can store:
Instantaneous measured signal values
RMS (Root Mean Square) curves of measured signals
Up to eight user-selectable digital signals
The digital signals available for recording include:
Digital input signals from external devices
Internal signals generated by protection functions and logic stages
Each selectable digital signal can be configured as a recording trigger based on:
Rising edge activation (signal changes from OFF to ON)
Falling edge activation (signal changes from ON to OFF)
The disturbance recorder provides valuable event analysis information for:
Protection operation verification
Fault investigation
System performance evaluation
Maintenance troubleshooting
5.1.1.5 Front Panel Interface
The relay front panel provides a local human-machine interface (HMI) for configuration, monitoring, and operation.
The front panel includes:
Display
2 × 16 character alphanumeric LCD
Backlight illumination
Automatic contrast adjustment for improved readability under different lighting conditions
LED Indicators
The relay provides:
Three fixed-function LEDs
Green LED
Yellow LED
Red LED
Eight programmable red LEDs
The programmable LEDs can be assigned to indicate user-defined conditions such as:
Protection trips
Alarms
Equipment status
Communication states
Control Buttons
The HMI keypad includes:
Four navigation arrow buttons
Clear/Cancel button
Enter button
These controls are used for:
Navigating through the relay menu structure
Viewing measurements and status information
Adjusting configuration parameters
Confirming setting changes
Communication Interface
The front panel includes:
Optically isolated serial communication port
Communication status indicator LED
The optical isolation provides improved electrical safety and immunity against interference in substation environments.
HMI Password Protection
The relay supports two levels of HMI password protection:
1. Main HMI Setting Password
Used to protect:
Protection settings
Control parameters
Configuration values
User-adjustable relay parameters
2. HMI Communication Password
Used specifically to protect:
Communication-related settings
Communication configuration parameters
Password protection prevents unauthorized modification of critical relay settings.
By default, both passwords are inactive. They become effective only after the default password has been replaced with a user-defined password.
Once activated, password entry is required before protected parameters can be modified.
