The CPU board integrates the key processing and support functions of the PM863 controller, including the microprocessor, RAM memory, real-time clock, LED indicators, an INIT push button, and a CompactFlash interface for storage and system data handling.

The baseplate provides the main communication interfaces required for system integration. It includes two RJ45 Ethernet ports (CN1, CN2) for connection to the Control Network, and two RJ45 serial ports (COM3 and COM4):

COM3 is an RS-232C port equipped with modem control signals

COM4 is an isolated serial interface, dedicated for configuration and engineering tools

The controller supports comprehensive CPU redundancy, enabling high system availability across the CPU, CEX-Bus, communication interfaces, and S800 I/O subsystems.

High-Integrity (HI) Safety Functionality

High-integrity safety functionality is enabled through the addition of an SM812 safety module together with SIL-certified software. This architecture allows non-critical control schemes to be upgraded to SIL-certified safety solutions simply by adding the appropriate SM81x plug-in module and selecting the required certified software package.

The AC 800M High-Integrity platform provides an integrated, IEC 61508 and TÜV-certified control environment. It enables safety and business-critical process control to be combined within a single controller unit without compromising safety integrity.
