Separation of Power and Signal Lines

230 V supply lines and low-voltage signal lines must be routed in separate cables at least 10 cm apart.
Even inside the switching cabinet, maintain physical separation between power and signal wiring.

Separation of Digital/Bus and Analog/Sensor Lines

Route digital signal/bus lines and analog/sensor lines in separate cables.

Use shielded cables for analog signal lines.

Shielding Practice

Terminate shields at the entry/exit of the switching cabinet.

Keep shields as short as possible with the largest feasible cross-section.

Use a central earthing point >10 mm², connected to the PE ground wire via the shortest route.

Normally connect the shield to one side of the switching cabinet only, unless a potential equalization with significantly lower resistance than the shield exists.

Suppression of Inductive Loads

Inductive components installed in the cabinet (e.g., contactor coils) must be fitted with suitable suppressors (RC elements).

Shielding High-Field Components

Components with high electromagnetic fields (e.g., transformers, frequency inverters) should be separated by metal separator plates with good grounding.

Surge Protection for Long-Distance or Outdoor Lines

Lines routed outside buildings or over long distances require appropriate surge protection measures—especially for bus lines.

Shields of external lines must have adequate current-carrying capacity and be earthed at both ends.

Surge arrestors should be installed at the entry point to the switching cabinet.

Addressing

Module Addressing (PCD2 CPUs)

The module address is determined by its slot position.

Addresses start at base address 0 on Slot 0 (addresses 0–15).

Each subsequent slot increments the base address by 16 up to address 127 on Slot 7, regardless of the number of I/Os (16, 8, or 4).

PCD2.C2000 / C1000

Addressing is also determined by module position; increments by 16 per slot.

Expansion Housing Addressing

Extension cables connect the expansion housing at the right-hand end of one row to the first expansion housing at the left of the next row.

The address of the first module in a new row equals the address of the last module in the previous row +16.
