New Features and Enhancements
1. Hot Standby CPU Redundancy
Release 2.00 introduces Hot Standby (HSB) CPU Redundancy, including support for the new CRE020 CPU module.
Hot Standby redundancy is an architecture in which two PLC CPU units cooperate to control a single process:
Active Unit: Executes control of the process
Backup Unit: Runs in parallel, continuously synchronized with the Active Unit
When both CPUs are in RUN mode, the Backup Unit receives current status and synchronization data from the Active Unit and executes the same logic simultaneously. In the event of a failure, the Backup Unit can seamlessly assume control, minimizing process disruption.
Backup CPU operates as a true hot standby
Redundant I/O capability is implemented using the Genius I/O System
2. Serial Communication Enhancements
SNP Serial Protocol
Proprietary serial protocol primarily used for communication with application software (e.g., programming tools).
Serial I/O Protocol
Enables serial communications through COMM_REQ instructions, allowing greater flexibility for serial device integration.
User-configurable serial ports in STOP mode
Serial port parameters can now be modified without placing the CPU in RUN mode.
3. New and Enhanced Function Blocks

4. New Status and Control Features
LAST_SCN status bit (%S2)
Indicates execution of the last logic scan.
RUN/STOP switch configuration option
Allows the physical RUN/STOP switch on the PLC to be configured as a memory-protect switch, enhancing program security.
5. New Service Requests
Service Request 29 – Read Power Down Time
Provides access to CPU power-down timing information.
Service Request 45 – Skip Next I/O Scan
Allows selective bypass of the next I/O scan for specialized control strategies.
6. New Reflective Memory Communication Modules
Release 2.00 adds support for the following Reflective Memory modules:
IC698CMX106 – Non-redundant Reflective Memory module
IC698RMX106 – Redundant Reflective Memory module
These modules enable high-speed, deterministic data sharing between controllers.
